Though critics aren't exactly lining up to heap praise on the three movie new releases out this weekend, Safe House, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and The Vow are all expected to produce a better-than-usual weekend at the box office.

"Safe House" is a gritty action thriller about corruption that's cynical, hard-edged, two-fisted, and only minimally interested in its own subject matter.

And if Safe House was made to prove that Reynolds can hold his own in an action thriller, they shouldn't have cast Denzel Washington opposite him. Matt Weston (Reynolds) runs a CIA safe house in South Africa in which nothing generally happens.
