They spent part of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday doing odd jobs — things like scrubbing kitchens, cleaning out basements and sorting toys for at a homeless shelter — all to honor the memory of the man who inspired the day of service.
Because it was a day of service honoring Martin Luther King Jr., the conversation between the high school students in the After School Matters program and a veteran from the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center naturally shifted toward race relations.
